Without a doubt, prices on the Caribbean Islands are significantly cheaper than in the US, even more so when you consider that your purchases will be tax (duty) free. Keep in mind, though, that you will have to declare EVERYTHING you purchased when you come back home to the US. You want to make sure that you do not exceed the spending "allowance " and blow your tax-free advantage. I have not traveled to the Caribbean since the US economy has been in peril. I have, however, been to Europe. What I found is that the exchange rate is A LOT lower because the US dollar is greatly devalued. That's just something else to keep in mind because I'm sure the same is true way down south. All-in-all, you can't go wrong shopping in the Bahamas.

Nassau is very expensive. No tax, yes that is right but all is expensive here. St, Thomas is cheaper and Puerto Rico too.

Well it depends on if u have little kids, but for perfume and jewelery and designer bags they are way cheaper then in the united states but i wouldnt want to wait for the last ,minute to get the stuff because most people give perfume, bags and jewlery for christmas. i know a good store called colombian emeralds, there jewelry is cute ,reall and not expensive

I live in Abaco, Bahamas. & I have to admit, alot of brand names are cheaper, as well as perfumes. Alcohol, rum, and beer are all cheaper as well because it's duty-free. America's economy is at the pits right now.

I lived in Nassau and you have nothing to worry about. The shopping in Nassau is great. You can buy all kinds of duty free on the main street of town, near the cruise ship port. There is also the straw market which sells locally crafted items. No toys for the kids.
